Ο κλεινός Ακράγας, η νεότερη από τις μεγάλες ελληνικές αποικίες στη Σικελία και τέσσερις από τους εντυπωσιακότερους ναούς της «Κοιλάδας των ναών»

Το 689/88 π.Χ., Ρόδιοι και Κρήτες ίδρυσαν τη Γέλα, την  πρώτη ελληνική αποικία στις νότιες ακτές τις Σικελίας, δηλαδή στην πλευρά που βρέχεται από την Αφρικανική θάλασσα κι αντικρίζει στο βάθος του ορίζοντα τα παράλια της σύγχρονης Τυνησίας. Έναν αιώνα αργότερα, το 583 ή 582 π.Χ., άποικοι από τη Γέλα, μαζί με πολιτικούς εξόριστους από τη μητροπολιτική Ρόδο, ιδρύουν κοντά στον ποταμό Ακράγαντα μια νέα αποικία και τη βαφτίζουν με το όνομα του ποταμού. Ο δωρικός Ακράγας βρίσκεται
περίπου στο κέντρο της νότια ακτής, στο κέντρο μιας μικρής αλλά εύφορης πεδιάδας, σε μια περιοχή που διαθέτει και πλούσια κοιτάσματα θείου (θειάφι).

My teachers in elementary school were all communists. I remember getting special education in socialism and why communism is the way forward. But once you asked questions, you were exspelled.
Simple questions like: if everyone earns the same under communism, why work hard or achieve anything? That one got me into trouble instantly.
My kindergarten teacher refused to teach any of the boys. Seriously. Every boy failed. When they asked the teachers... They blamed the boys. Said every boy was a trouble maker sonthey didn't teach us anything. No one lost their jobs because of the union.

This was 1980.

In 3rd grade they told us their would be no Social security left for us and we should start saving our money now, in 3rd grade. Boomers. I could go on about more feminist teachers throughout my life. 7th grade, 9th grade and all of college.

All biased as Hell.

Miserable humans.

Back in 4th grade, a female teacher told my parents that I had attention and obedience issues, not because I struggled academically, but because I finished my tests and homework faster than the other kids and would get bored, wanting to go play outside. Despite having good grades, I was prescribed Ritalin shortly afterward and remained on it until high school. As a child, I was put on an adult dosage, which left me feeling like a zombie. I blinked so frequently on the medication that other kids started calling me "Blinky." I also remember my heart always feeling like it hurt as a kid. Interestingly, once I cleaned up my diet and started exercising in high school and stopped the medication, both my focus and those heart issues disappeared. Nearly a decade later, as a father, I know I’d never put my son through something like that.
