No Separate Fronts
This week in Athens,
and
, the Israeli and Greek defence ministers, consolidated a partnership that has moved from alignment to strategic substance. The visit ends tomorrow. Air, sea, intelligence, interoperability. Necessary. Obvious.
And then the question that sits in the room. The Kurds. In northern Syria. And in Turkey.
Because right now in northeastern Syria, a decisive compression is underway. Kurdish forces are being pushed into arrangements that dilute, absorb, and remove them as an actor. Damascus is reasserting control. Ankara is demanding disarmament. ISIS detention facilities and camps are shifting hands at the most sensitive possible moment. If the Kurds are defeated, this is not a Syrian detail, but a regional mechanism. As one front closes, Ankara’s decision cycles shorten, freeing attention, resources, and coercive capacity. That same pressure reappears across theatres we already face: the Eastern Mediterranean. Cyprus. Libya. The Aegean. Somalia. Wherever Turkey tests for delay, fragmentation, and the absence of cost. The front vis à vis Turkey is one front. Those who compartmentalise it misread it. Israel and Greece have the capacity to counter Turkey. Militarily, in air and sea, intelligence, technology, coordination. And morally, too. Two democracies. Two blue and white flags, as Prime Minister Netanyahu once put it. The decisive test of Israel Greece cooperation is not only what we build together, but which red lines we understand together. Because if the Kurds fall today, we face the same Turkey tomorrow. Closer. Less constrained. More convinced that time, not resistance, is on its side.

There is no general exception that removes this right due to proximity to another coast or because of semi-enclosed geography.
